It’s been 5 years since my son William and I were interviewed by Mark Strassmann for CBS Mornings — we shared our family’s very personal journey with depression. We did it because we want to help other families who may not know that their kids are struggling. Will said his depression started when he was just 9 years old. We’ve learned so much since then and today Will is thriving.
Today we are both mental health advocates who speak honestly and hopefully about our journey to large companies and organizations and anywhere where an open conversation about mental health is needed and wanted!
Please watch and share this video with everyone you know — you may save someone’s life and you will certainly start a much-needed conversation about mental health!
You are not alone — talking openly ends the shame and stigma that keep people struggling alone in silence.

And please check out this amazing book — a book we wish we’d had in our home and in our school — if we had, Will would have had the language to tell us at a young age what he was going through instead of struggling alone in silence for 8 years before telling us at 17. It’s not a children’s book — it’s for everyone and it gives people the language to express difficult feelings.
